Beagle and Bee Apiary is a Massachusetts-based, veteran-owned beekeeping business. Established in April 2018 in Charlotte, NC, we made the move to Massachusetts in August 2023!
We currently operate 2 hives which are collegiate-themed: Hokies and Pirates. Matt is an alumnus of Virginia Tech and Penn State, while Sarah attended East Carolina University.
We also have 3 rescue dogs: Sam the Beagle, Lilly the American Foxhound, and our littlest, Bellatrix, a beagle mix.
We are committed to helping people and the planet. Bees are an integral and necessary part of our environment, and we want to do our part! Additionally, 10% of all sales go to charity. To find out more information, see below!
A swarm is a cluster of bees temporarily resting in places such as trees or buildings while they look for a new home. Swarms typically disperse on their own within a few hours, but could take up to a few days. It is important to note that swarms are very docile and usually do not represent a threat.
However, there are instances where bees will make a permanent home in an unwanted location. Many beekeepers in the Worcester County area offer to help residents remove bees from property and structures. Contact information at the link below is updated annually.
The Worcester County Beekeepers' Association is the oldest beekeepers' association in the United States! They are happy to provide information and resources for those wanting to know more. This includes speaking engagements, monthly meetings, and an annual beekeeping school!
The Massachusetts Beekeepers Association educates the public on bees, beekeeping, and supports local associations throughout Mass. They are driven to protect the honey bee and provide support to beekeepers. The link below provides a variety of information and resources about bees, local honey, and other topics.
Beagles are loving and silly, if not a little stubborn! They are the perfect pack dog and loyal to their family, just like honey bees! Sadly, due to their loving nature, beagles are often used in laboratory experiments, as was the case with our first rescue, Sam.
We adopted Lilly and Bellatrix through the Triangle Beagle Rescue of NC, and we continue to support TBR with a portion of every sale. Check out their website below if you are looking to adopt or foster. Even if you can't take in a dog, you can still help through donation at the link below.
Sarah has been involved with Special Olympics since an early age as her brother, Joe, has Downs Syndrome. Matt began supporting Special Olympics through his fraternity at Virginia Tech. Now, we continue to support Special Olympics with a portion of every sale. To donate or get more involved, please click on the link below.
